In Its Historic 80th Year, Organization Plans Major Activities at Affordable Housing Event as Community Partner

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — Today, the Greater Washington Urban League (GWUL) - a leading nonprofit community service organization guiding Washington, D.C. metropolitan area residents into self-sufficiency for 80 years – announced its continued participation in the upcoming 10th Annual DC Housing Expo and Home Show taking place at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center on Saturday, June 9, 2018, 10am – 3pm. Each year, the District of Columbia’s largest event highlighting affordable housing and community development issues presents numerous interactive activities, useful workshops, forums and resources for area residents. Hosted by the District of Columbia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), the Expo also enhances the Greater Washington Urban League’s long-standing housing and foreclosure mitigation programs as a major public event extension. More information can be found at or
Institutions and organizations interested in underwriting Greater Washington Urban League activities at the Expo can also learn more about sponsorship and register here. Social media is encouraged by accessing more information and conversation at #DCHousing.

The Expo is a highly recognized and essential annual exercise, particularly for underserved District residents. It also celebrates National Homeownership Month, a yearly observance and promotion of affordable housing established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. There are more than two dozen workshops being facilitated at this year’s Expo, along with more than 150 non-profits, government agencies, realtors and lenders that will be present to provide critical information and guidance for prospective homebuyers and current homeowners.

The GWUL’s housing programs and services, with volunteer support from its young adult-auxiliary the Thursday Network, will be among the Expo’s largest exhibitors providing information and guidance on homebuyer counseling, purchasing assistance, access to affordable housing, and foreclosure mitigation. Staff will be on site to help residents from vulnerable District communities find the resources they need to live in a city grappling with available affordable housing challenges.
