On August 28, 2021 our Greater Washington Urban League (GWUL) affiliate will be hosting its 9th Annual Health & Wellness Back 2 School Festival! We NEED YOU TN FAMILY!!!

Volunteer Shifts and Schedules 

Role: Arts & Crafts Kits Assembly

Wednesday, August 25th Shift: 4:00PM – 8:00PM

Total Volunteers Needed: 10 

Responsibilities: Volunteers assemble 400 slime making kits and pair journals  and stickers, stage backpack stuffing area.


Role: Backpack Stuffing 

Friday, August 27th Shift: 4:00PM – 8:00PM 

Total Volunteers Needed: 10   

Responsibilities: Volunteers will stuff backpacks.

Role: Day-Of Volunteer: The Back 2 School Festival

Saturday, August 28th

Shift 1: 9:00AM – 1:00 PM 

Total Volunteers Needed: 20   

Shift 2: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM 

Total Volunteers Needed: 20

40 Volunteers Needed Total.

Responsibilities: Volunteers will assist with a variety of day-of needs.

3. Backpack Distribution –   Age Groups 

4. Book Giveaway 

5. Slime Kit Distribution 

6. Greeters and Direction Givers 

7. Food Truck Marshalls 

8. Photo Takers 

9. Social Media Posters 

10. Break Down Support

Volunteer Check-In Instructions

Upon arrival, visit the volunteer check-in table inside of GWUL Headquarters by entering  through the Harvard Street entrance (double glass door). Complete a temperature check and COVID Symptom Affidavit. Share an emergency contact. Pick up a volunteer package, which  includes the following items: 


Volunteer PPE (gloves, mask, hand sanitizer, cleaning wipes) 

Event overview and point of contact information 

Instructions for managing the various event station(s) 

A ticket for a light snack from one of the sponsored food trucks 

Back 2 School Volunteer T-shirt 


Mask up, glove up and become ambassadors for the organization!


Please Note: There will be NO ENTRY for guests/participants into the building under ANY circumstances. Restrooms will be available for volunteers ONLY. Thursday Network in partnership with the Greater Washington Urban League is committed to upholding all COVID-19 mandated guidelines.
