Mariam Moijueh
Member since since 2025 Why are you running for this position? I am running for the Community Service Programs Chair position because I am passionate about helping people, especially those of us in the Black community. I want to do my part to ensure that Thursday Network remains a strong and trusted resource for those in need. Thursday Network has already done incredible, impactful work and I have been inspired to get more deeply involved. I hope to continue to build on the foundation that has been laid, while also bringing a fresh and new perspective. My overall goal is to make community service a core, consistent, and energizing part of our collective experience. What qualifications do you possess that make you uniquely qualified for this position? I am a public servant, a dedicated volunteer, and an active community member. Over the past nine years, I’ve focused my career in the federal government around one mission: working for the people. My background is in data analytics, and I specialize in using data to tell stories, inform decisions, and measure outcomes. In my current role, I analyze data for grant competitions that fund critical homeless services and housing initiatives nationwide. This work allows me to ensure that federal funds are distributed to those who need it most. Outside of work, I’ve volunteered weekly at a local food bank for the past four years, where I have developed a stronger understanding for the community needs in this area and the value of consistent service. I have empathy and a desire to uplift our community. I try my best to lead with love, grace, and a smile. What initiatives would you implement if selected for this position? I would love to see recurring programs that help even more underserved communities, particularly the aging population and people experiencing homelessness. For example, monthly visits to senior centers to provide companionship, teach basic tech education, and/or combat social isolation in general would make a meaningful difference. We could also collaborate with local shelters to run donation drives and distribute food, clothing, or hygiene kits to unsheltered individuals on a more frequent basis. Lastly, I would like for us to expand our focus on health and wellness, particularly around mental health. Suicide prevention is an issue that I hold close to my heart. It is often seen as a taboo topic in the Black community, but addressing it is critically important. We could participate in charity walks or host panel discussions in collaboration with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) or the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to raise awareness, recognize warning signs, and connect people with resources. If selected for this position, describe how you would use your role to impact on the Thursday Network, the Greater Washington Urban League, and the National Urban League Young Professionals? The core values of all three organizations are centered around service, equity, and empowerment for Black people. If selected, I will use my position to advocate for vulnerable populations and promote programs that instill a sense of dignity, self-sufficiency, and pride. I aim to push this mission by creating programs that help people gain more education and feel empowered. I want our work to address both immediate needs and long-term change. I also aim to continue the sense of collaboration within Thursday Network. There is power in numbers, and Thursday Network thrives when members feel connected to the mission and each other. I want to create an engaging and meaningful experience so that all members feel invested in our mission, show up, and strengthen our community reach. How much time can you commit to this position per month? 10-20 hours |
